Accrington Stanley Women’s search for FA Cup fairytale

Accrington Stanley are aiming to cause a major upset when they take on Huddersfield Town at the Wham Stadium in the first Women’s FA Cup second round.

Stanley have won all 12 games this season – despite not registering a single victory during pre-season – and have scored 56 goals with Grace Hindley bagging 11.

“There’s no real pressure,” Hindley said, ahead of Sunday’s Cup tie.

“All the girls are on form at the minute and getting the goals.”

Accrington Stanley Women put seven past Atherton LR Ladies in the LCFA Women’s Cup.

It will take a top class performance from Accrington for them to progress.

Huddersfield are two leagues higher and sit fifth in the FA Women’s National League. They hammered Nantwich Town 7-0 in the first round, while Accrington squeezed past Rossington 1-0.

Accrington will be looking to find glory this season.

Stanley head coach James Mallet, who has a UEFA A coaching licence plus more than 15 years experience, came to the club at the start of the season.

Mallet will be looking to cause an FA Cup upset.

“We have hit the figure seven quite regularly, but we should have had more,” said Mallet.

“There have been games we have scored seven goals but looking at it that’s only been a 20 per cent conversion rate.

“That paints a picture about the amount of opportunities we create.”

The game kicks off at 1pm with a pitch inspection to take place on the day.
