UCLan FC Men: 2s defeated in final game of 2024
UCLan 2s travelled away to play Lancaster University 2s for their last game of 2024, where they fell to a heavy 6-0 defeat, writes Leo Downes.
UCLan started on the back foot, conceding the opener inside six minutes, with Lancaster’s number 83 finding the bottom-right with a tidy finish.
It wasn’t long before Lancaster had full control over the game, scoring twice in the ninth and 11th minute.
Number 70 took advantage of UCLan’s mismanaged defending from a corner to double the hosts’ lead, before centre-half Adam Bond’s slip let Lancaster’s 83 in behind for his second of the afternoon.
The visitors’ only goalscoring opportunity of the game came 20 minutes in, with Leon Hongkins finding himself one-on-one, yet his effort was denied for a corner.
Lancaster managed the game well after this missed chance, adding a fourth goal just three minutes later.
Whilst coach Josh Lucas’ calls for a substitution were ignored, the home side worked the ball forward for number 77 to add another to the scoreline.
The second period saw much of the same.
Lancaster scored their fifth of the day just three minutes in to the half, before any tactical changes could take effect for the losing side.
In the next 10 minutes UCLan were caught out in behind a number of times, with Christian Mathews save high to his right the only bright spark seen since Hongkins’ first half chance.
The game slowed down as the clock went on, with a number of changes from both sides and both UCLan’s Adam Bond and Ben Ascroft picking up frustrating yellow cards.
However, the 2s’ suffering wasn’t over, as Lancaster added a sixth in the 81st minute.
The 6-0 loss on the road kept the UCLan 2s bottom of the Men’s Northern Tier 4 going into the new year.
